Gardening Group

15th March 2025

With the installation of our interpretation board the replanting of Jackwood House Garden as a wildlife friendly garden is now complete. This was achieved with thanks to a grant from the National Power Grid Community Fund.

We now enter the ongoing maintenance phase as we wait to see how many new plants survived their first winter.

Our primary task was careful weeding, particularly of grass, which could potentially overwhelm the carefully selected plants. But we also had to reinstall one of the bug hotels built by Men & Women in Sheds Eltham and filled by a local school. The new sign had also got a bit damaged so has been touched up with an appropriate paint.

It's always rewarding when we find new inhabitants, like the green caterpillar below, and we were delighted to see that wheelchair access to the sun terrace has been restored with the removal of a large log.
