Jackwood House Garden

Our intrepid volunteers faced cloud bursts of hail on Friday as they continued with the winter maintenance in Jackwood Garden.

February is the month to hard prune the wisteria. Ours has been long neglected. By pruning back to some dominant stems we could clear out the huge amount of dead leaves and debris that has built up over the years. It looks dramatic, but the plant will be mush healthier with air circulating.

Ideally wisteria should be pruned twice a year. Currently we only have the resources to work on a three-year annual rotation.

A huge amount of old vine and leaf litter was removed.

A path through the flower bed was getting created, compacting the earth and causing damage to the new plants. This hazel fence, using materials from the woods, will help to protect the new plants.
